Blue Carpenter Bee

An elusive species found scattered in the South. Was once very rare but now increasingly becoming frequent and currently considered scarce. Habitat includes: Sun-baked, flower rich sites with roses and brambles in places such as chalk downland, heathland, woodland rides, wasteland etc. Life story: Nesting occurs in hollow stems such as that of bramble and rose (even twigs on the ground) in hot, sheltered places. Flight period: May to August (but can be found hibernating). Diet: pollen and nectar from a wide variety of flowers including: Daisies, Roses, Brambles.
